. Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Suffolk County Museum, 300 West Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901. Long Island Rail Road’s Riverhead Station and convenient train service is adjacent to the museum. Ample vehicle parking is available in the municipal parking lot located across the street on Osborne Avenue.

Dr. Paul Carr, with Riverhead Town Historian, Georgette Case, have performed years of scholarly research on the creation, operation and demise of the Suffolk County Agricultural Fair, held on what is now the grounds of Riverhead Union Free School District. Dr. Carr will provide a discussion and slide presentation of their findings. These include the fascinating story of the Long Island Rail Road’s involvement at the agricultural fair. As a marketing tool, the LIRR assigned Hal Fullerton and his wife Edith to create and operate experimental farms at Yaphank and Wading River. Their discoveries and work became a foundation of railroad involvement with Suffolk County farmers at the fair.
