Hours - The Riverhead restoration site is currently open Saturdays, only, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This schedule will remain in effect until mid December 2008.
In case of inclement weather please call the museum at (631) 727-7920 to see if we will open that day.
Starting mid April 2008 with the return of warmer weather the World's Fair Miniature train will run every Saturday, weather permitting, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Call the museum to verify if the train will be running that day.
The Greenport site will be open 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday holidays from May 24, 2008, (Memorial Day weekend.) to October 13, 2008(Columbus Day weekend). However, the museum will reopen for Santa's visit on December 6 and 7, 2008 from 12:00 noon to 3:30 PM each day. For more information you may call the Museum at (631) 477-0439.
Admission - Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children 5-12 years old, and children under 5 FREE. The admission charge includes a ride on our World's Fair miniature train and a guided tour of the Riverhead and Greenport sites. Admission tickets are good for both the Riverhead and Greenport sites on the date stamped on your ticket when purchased.
Directions to the Riverhead Site - The Riverhead Visitor's Center is located at 416 Griffing Avenue, just north of the railroad tracks. It is accessible by railroad, bus and automobile.
To get to the restoration site by the Long Island Rail Road or bus take either to the Riverhead railroad station. The museum restoration site is directly across the tracks and across Griffing Avenue from the station. To get to the restoration site by automobile from western Long Island, take the Long Island Expressway eastbound to Exit 72, NYS Route 25 East (Main Street). Follow Route 25 approximately three miles. Turn left onto Griffing Avenue and proceed for two blocks. The museum is on the right just over the railroad tracks.
To get to the restoration site by automobile from the north fork, take NYS Route 25 through downtown Riverhead. Turn right onto Griffing Avenue and proceed for two blocks. The museum is on the right just over the railroad tracks.
To get to the restoration site by automobile from the south fork, follow local roads to the Peconic Avenue/Riverhead traffic circle. Proceed north on Peconic Avenue to Main Street. Turn left for one block and then turn right onto Griffing Avenue and proceed for two blocks. The museum is on the right just over the railroad tracks.
Parking is available on site and the museum building and grounds are handicapped accessible. The rail cars have limited access.
Directions to the Greenport Site -The museum is located just west of the Greenport LIRR station and is accessible by railroad, bus, ferry and by automobile.To get to the museum by railroad, take the Long Island Rail Road to Greenport. The Greenport site can also be reached via ferry from both New London, Connecticut and Shelter Island. To get to the museum from New London, take the ferry to Orient Point. For schedule and fare information, and to make reservations (strongly recommended), you may call the Cross Sound Ferry at (631) 323-2525. (You may call (860) 443-5281 from Connecticut.) From the ferry terminal in Orient follow NYS Route 25 through Greenport to Front Street. Turn left onto Fourth Street and go two blocks to the railroad tracks. The museum will be on the left. Parking is available outside of the museum.
To get to the museum from Shelter Island, take the ferry to Greenport; the museum is across the parking lot from the ferry slip. For schedule and fare information, contact the North Ferry Co. at 631-749-0139 or visit their web site.
To get to the museum by automobile, take the Long Island Expressway to the last exit, Exit 73, County Route 58 east. This route is also known as Old Country Road. Take this route east to the intersection with NYS Route 25. Take route 25 east. Route 25 is also known an Main Road. Follow Route 25 east until the town of Greenport is reached. Greenport is approximately 23 miles east of the end of the Long Island Expressway. Main Road becomes Front Street in Greenport. Make a right turn on 4th Street and go two blocks to the railroad tracks. The museum will be on the left. Parking is available outside of the museum. |
