Welcome to the Railroad Museum of Long Island. Come explore the site and take a ride through history.

Established in 1990, the Railroad Museum of Long Island is Dedicated to the restoration, preservation and interpretation of the history and artifacts pertaining to the railroads which participated in the growth of Long Island, its communities and industries for the entertainment, edification, and good of present and future generations.

The Museum is chartered by the New York State Education Department. The museum has sites at Riverhead, L.I., N.Y. and Greenport, L.I., N.Y.

Our Riverhead restoration site is located in a former lumber yard opposite the Riverhead Long Island Rail Road station. Riverhead is at the junction of the North and South forks of Long Island. The Riverhead site is where the restoration of the museum rolling stock takes place. Our visitors center has small displays and a fully stocked gift shop.

Our Greenport site was established in a former Long Island Rail Road Freight house. This location was lovingly restored by museum volunteers and has permanent exhibit of railroad artifacts as well as regularly changing exhibits.

The museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is staffed entirely by volunteers. Our funds come primarily from donations and membership dues. We encourage you to make a donation and become a member of the museum.
